What Is DLA?

DLA can be one of the largest PCS-related payments, but eligibility depends on your orders and situation. Some members may receive primary DLA, secondary DLA, partial DLA, or no DLA. Always confirm DLA eligibility with your finance office before relying on it for your move budget.

What Is MALT Mileage?

MALT stands for Monetary Allowance in Lieu of Transportation. For PCS moves, MALT is commonly used when a service member is authorized to travel by privately owned vehicle, or POV.

This calculator estimates MALT by using the distance entered, the current planning mileage rate, and the number of authorized POVs selected. Your official reimbursement may depend on official mileage between authorized locations, not necessarily the exact mileage shown by a map app.

How Are PCS Travel Days Calculated?

PCS travel days are usually based on the official distance between authorized locations. For POV travel, the first travel day generally covers the first 400 miles. For longer moves, additional travel days are based on the remaining distance.

This matters because authorized travel days can affect per diem estimates. A longer authorized travel period may increase the amount of travel per diem a service member and eligible dependents may receive.

What Is PCS Per Diem?

PCS per diem helps cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on official PCS orders. The service member may receive a full daily amount, while dependents may receive a percentage depending on age and travel status.

This calculator uses your entered daily rate, travel days, and dependent information to estimate a PCS per diem amount. Actual amounts may vary based on your orders, travel dates, travel method, and official rules.

What Is TLE?

Temporary Lodging Expense, or TLE, helps partially cover lodging and meal costs when a service member or dependents stay in temporary lodging during a CONUS PCS move. TLE is generally tied to lodging near the old or new permanent duty station and is not the same as house-hunting reimbursement.

This calculator allows you to enter estimated lodging and meal costs so you can see how temporary lodging may affect your PCS budget. Actual TLE reimbursement depends on location, receipts, eligibility, and day limits.

Why BAH Changes Matter During a PCS

Basic Allowance for Housing can change when you move to a new permanent duty station. A higher BAH area may increase monthly housing allowance, while a lower BAH area may reduce future monthly housing income depending on your situation and rate protection rules.

This calculator lets you enter your old monthly BAH and new monthly BAH so you can estimate the monthly difference. That helps you plan for rent, mortgage payments, deposits, utilities, and temporary housing costs at the new location.

Can This Calculator Estimate a PPM Move?

This version does not calculate an exact Personally Procured Move, or PPM, incentive. A true PPM estimate depends on government constructed cost, authorized weight, actual weight tickets, move distance, and transportation office counseling.

If you are doing a full or partial PPM, use this calculator for general PCS cash-flow planning, but get your official PPM estimate through your transportation office or DPS. Keep certified empty and full weight tickets, receipts, and all required documents.
